Research So Far for Project III

We were given time to work on our projects rather than go to class today, but I have already been researching quite a bit.

I am looking at music in Atlanta, and I have spent quite a lot of time looking at venues. After bouncing around on Google, I have come up with these venues:

  1. The Masquerade
  2. Blind WIllie’s
  3. Star Community Bar
  4. The Tabernacle
  5. Northside Tavern
  6. The Earl
  7. Eddie’s Attic

These venues make many lists found on these sites:

I really want to use all of these venues in my presentation, but I am still trying to work out how I will put it all together. I’m satisfied with the research that I have done so far, but I still have this to do list for the project:

  • Take photos of venues
  • Find media outlet to display information
  • Continue research on venues in Atlanta

I plan on getting the photos and research completed over Thanksgiving break when I have more time to drive around the city. I want to come back to class next Tuesday with all of my media so I can just focus on putting all of the information together in a multimedia component.

Overall, I’d say this project looks like it will be pretty fun!

Reflection: Project Two

  • What did you learn?
  • I learned how to use a new way to present my information. I also learned that using sites like Picktograph makes your information look much more professional than something like a Powerpoint.

  • What went well?
  • I think that my project looks really cool. Everything is laid out in a very specific way, and I am happy with my overall presentation. I did find it difficult to get all of my points across because I felt like I was writing too much.

  • What would you change?
  • I would like to add more information or even add another section. I think that my project is well-rounded, but I think there could have been other posts that I could have explored beyond just Oh No They Didn’t!.

  • What do you think overall?
  • I liked it because it was more involved than just presenting on a candidate. I think that looking at how politics are being manipulated is really interesting, so the overall outcome of the project was well done.

On Yahoo! JAPAN

The first thing that I noticed about the site (http://www.yahoo.co.jp/) was that it is very busy. There are a lot of links on the one page. However, I did recognize many of the icons on the page. I also understood some of the links based on what the picture next to them was. For example, I assume that the block containing the baseball picture is linked to the sports page. The language is so different though that I doubt that I would be able to gather any other information besides what the pictures can tell me. I think that the site definitely has some language barriers and some cultural barriers. For example, unless we are in the World Series, the US rarely puts baseball at the top of the front page.

On “Fragmentation and Cyberscades”

“With the capacity to customize and make individualized selections, how does the emerging world of interactive media represent a significant change from the commonly shared experience of mass media?”

This article details how the internet offers users many different experiences that can influence what they determine to be their own style. Because websites come in many different formats and styles, internet users are able to make their own decisions about what interests them. While websites used to be pretty generic, causing people to like the same things, people’s interests have grown as more and more choices are presented. As the art of web design develops, interests in design have expanded as well.
