Swirling.

In my family, “swirling” refers to the movement of furniture in a room, or sometimes a house, that results in the complete zen-like feeling of having a “new” space.

My dad and I “swirled” my room in Marietta today. It looks really pretty, maybe even better than it was before. My room is very fresh feeling – light green walls, wood furniture, painted pieces, lots of color – and it’s always fun to add more to it. We’ve been perfecting my bedroom since I was about to start high school – it’s hard to believe that I’m in the middle of college now. I remember sitting in my bedroom and wishing that I could go on and start college; that I could begin to figure out what I want to do. Now, since moving home for the summer, I find myself wishing that I could stay in my early twenties forever and live the way I used to when I was in high school – having fun with friends, writing a lot, listening to music. It’s funny how coming home makes you think about the things you had left behind.

The new room almost makes me not want to move back downtown. Almost.
